Richmond has named its squad for Saturday’s AFLW practice match against Geelong at the Swinburne Centre.
The Tigers squad of 24 includes seven fresh faces with off-season trade recruits Poppy Kelly and Jess Hosking and all four new draftees set to play.
Richmond's first two picks Stella Reid and Emelia Yassir, have been selected and will likely play in the forward half, while mature-age recruit Megan Kiely will get opportunities through the midfield and Ingrid Houtsma across the ground.
20-year-old Port Melbourne player Sophie Locke, who is a train-on player with the Tigers, will also don the yellow and black for the first time. The youngster was named on the half-forward flank of the VFLW Team of the year last season.
Courtney Wakefield has been named after a dominant intraclub display and will re-join skipper Katie Brennan as a formidable pairing in attack.
The talls average more than a goal per game across their AFLW careers, rating them among the competition’s elite.
Reigning best and fairest winner Monique Conti will also play, fresh off her first full AFLW pre-season, having stepped away from the WNBL for this season.
Missing from Richmond’s team through injury is Ellie McKenzie (lower leg - medium-term), Maddie Shevlin (toe - short term), Akec Makur Chuot (knee - short term), and Iilish Ross (lower leg - medium term).
Vice-captain Sarah Hosking will also miss the match with a quad complaint. Tessa Lavey is unavailable due to WNBL commitments and Hannah McLaren with illness.
Richmond’s clash with Geelong is closed to the public but will be covered on Richmond Women's Twitter and Instagram accounts from 2pm.
