Richmond has used its first selection (No. 9 overall) in the 2021 national draft to recruit Greater Western Victoria Rebels/Vic Country key defender Josh Gibcus.

An athletic key position prospect from the GWV Rebels, we are super excited to add Josh to our list.

Josh has been very comfortable playing in defence at both NAB league level, VIC Country and for Australia as a member of the AFL Academy.

Standing at 196cm, Josh has played on some of the very best forwards in his age group, demonstrating his ability to nullify their influence while also being a strong intercepting player.

He was the number #1 intercept player in the NAB league in 2021 averaging 8 intercepts with 3 Marks from opposition kicks.

Recently Josh tested at the VIC Combine testing day with some outstanding results for the running verticals, speed and 2km time trial.

Josh is a product of the St Patricks College system in Ballarat that has helped shape many outstanding AFL footballers and young men.

We view him as a versatile prospect that has attributes to play at either end of the ground.
