It may only be week two of Richmond's AFLW pre-season, but midfielder Maddy Brancatisano says the Tigers are already fit and firing.
The AFLW Tigers returned to Punt Road for the official pre-season start last Wednesday, and have gotten straight into the swing of things.
"It's been pretty fun, it's induction at the moment so we've been having a lot of meetings and getting used to everything again," the 21-year-old midfielder said.
"The girls have come back really fit and ready to go.
"To come in and see everyone has been great and the training's been up and about."
The delay of the 2022 season start means the first round will now kick off in January, but Brancatisano said the players made the most of the extra preparation time in the lead up to the pre-season.
"I think the push back has been kind of a blessing, because we've been able to work harder on our running and strength, so we're all pretty ready to go," she said.
"We've had a few girls go in and out of rehab but everyone's fit and looking great out there."
Seven Tigers have now hit the track for the first official time in the Yellow and Black, Jess Hosking, Maddie Shevlin, Poppy Kelly, Stella Reid, Emelia Yassir, Ingrid Houstma and Meagan Kiely, and are looking right at home already.
"It's like they've been here all along," Brancatisano said.
"They've fit straight in, they're a great group of girls... So it's been really good to have them in."
With two seasons in the competition now under their belt, Brancatisano said the Tigers had well and truly found their feet and had a clear focus for the pre-season ahead.
"We know things we need to work on and we've done all that, so I think we're just really eager to get going again and see what we can do next year," she said.
For Brancatisano, 2021 was a breakthrough season as she established herself as a key cog in Richmond's midfield unit. She played every game but one as she more than doubled her disposal count from the year prior, averaging 12 touches per game.
And as she enters her fourth year in the AFLW system, she's doing everything she can to continue on that same trajectory.
"It was a great year last year for everyone, I've just trying to working alongside girls like Mon (Conti) and the Hosking sisters as well to try and improve my game and go to the next level," she said.
"(The focus for the pre-season is) to get super fit, and to have a really good time and enjoy it."
