TOGETHER WE CREATE is a First Nation's runway and business showcase created in collaboration with Ngali.

TOGETHER WE CREATE is more than football and fashion, it is working with the creative minds and supporters within our networks to create possibilities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business.

Brought to life by the work of 13 First Nations creatives, TOGETHER WE CREATE transforms Punt Road Oval into a world of colour and movement through art, music, fashion and performance.

MEET THE CREATIVES

Josh Deane

Josh Deane is an Indigenous contemporary artist/model from Naarm /Melbourne, Australia. He creates contemporary art influenced by his own life and experiences. In March 2022 Josh held a solo exhibition called Adapt/22 at Blakdot Gallery. Funded by Creative Victoria and Victorian Regional Artists. Josh Deane loves working within the Creative Industries and is extremely passionate about representing diversity within it. Living with a firm belief that the act of creation can bring healing and inspiration to others.

Cassie Leatham

Cassie Leatham is from the Taungurung people from the Kulin Nation. She is an Indigenous artist, master weaver, traditional dancer, bushtukka woman and educator. She is extremely passionate about teaching her skills to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students of all ages.

Jason Mulholland

Jason Mulholland is a proud Yanyuwa - Marra man from Borroloola in the Northern Territory, now living in Melbourne. His business name is Jayce Apparel. He is an Aboriginal artist who uses both Contempory and Traditional cultural concepts from Dreaming stories, as well as personal life experiences to express his art and to design images for his apparel range. Keedan Rigney

Keedan Rigney is a Ngarrindjeri Wirangu Melbourne based artist originally from South Australia. Keedan uses art as a creative expression to bring awareness to intergenerational trauma and past and current injustices that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people face. Growing up on Country, Keedan was raised and led by a powerful Matriarchy. The boots tell a story of gathering. We follow in the footsteps that our Mothers, Sister, Aunties, Nans have paved the way for us.

Mick Harding

Mick Harding is a proud Taungwurrung Kulin man and the artist behind Ngarga Warendj – Dancing Wombat. When Mick creates something, he expresses his cultural integrity in place, by being respectful of the interpretation of his culture, and sharing his story as a Taungwurrung Kulin (Aboriginal man from my traditional country). “We are the first peoples of this land and have an ongoing responsibility to keep our culture alive and relevant in our current society. We belong to this land”

Laura Brown

Laura Brown is a proud Muruwari and Kamilaroi woman from Northern New South Wales, living in Naarm - Melbourne. She is an emerging Indigenous artist exploring the connection to her people through her artwork. Laura is focusing on sharing stories and sparking conversations through her contemporary designs.

Kristie Peters

Kristie is a proud Wiradjuri woman from central-west NSW. Her art is more of a contemporary style. A lot of her artwork reflects a powerful medium for healing intergenerational trauma, lifting ones energy and connecting people deeply with the stories behind the pieces. In Wiradjuri language, the name of her business, Yarrudhamarra, means “dream”, reflecting the promise to her stepfather, and her mission of making dreams into reality by connecting people through Aboriginal art and culture.

Denni Francisco

Denni is a proud Wiradjuri woman and the founder of Ngali. Ngali, launched in 2018 brings the artwork of Australia’s First Nations to the world through premium-quality clothing and collectibles. As a social enterprise, the brand helps remote, regional, and urban artists expand their reach and economic prosperity whilst expanding understanding between Indigenous communities and others. Denni is passionate about equality and supporting Indigenous communities. In the business world, she believes strongly in health and wellbeing for all, and sustainable and ethical business practices.

Lorraine Brigdale

Lorraine is a proud Yorta Yorta woman, daughter, mother and artist. Her Aboriginal famil on the maternal side originates from the Ulupna Clan in te Barmah Forest on the boarder of NSW and Victoria. Her creative journey is undeniably linked to her Aboriginal family. As an artist her creative life has always included learning, teaching, sharing her art practices, culture and love of Country. Making art from natural and found materials is a creative urge which is in her bloo, coming from her ancestral memory.

Ange Jeffery

Ange Jeffery is a Wiradjuri artist who grew up on Country in central west NSW, with Wambuul (Macquarie River) having a lasting influence and inspiration in her art practice. Ange has an environmental science background, and balances her technical ability with creative pursuits. She is a mixed media artist with a particular interest in jewellery and body adornment. Ange’s values are represented in her work and preference for using responsibly sourced materials, including collected and recycled natural and manmade items. Her work is organic, combining her Culture with contemporary techniques and objects.

Daen Sansbury-Smith

Daen is a Narungga/ Kaurna and Trawoolwaway content producer, visual artist and founder of Adjadura Art (My peoples art in Narungga). He has produced countless art works over the years as an exploratory process producing gifts to decorate family homes of reinterpreted culture stories. In 2020 his debut solo Art Exhibition was a success despite Melbourne lockdowns, developing the ‘Black Crow’ Augmented Reality art series currently on tour at multiple galleries nationally.

Josh Power - KYAH - Music composer

KYAH is a singer|songwriter|producer, who has a particular flavour for mixing organic sounds and transforming them into electronic/pop music. Proud Juru man from far north Queensland KYAH now resides in Meanjin and has been on a continuous creative journey acquiring new sounds and inspiration gifted from culture, nature and learned experiences.

Amelia O’Leary

Amelia O’Leary is a First Nations Gamilaroi Yinarr from Northern New South Wales and has lived in Naarm (Melbourne) for the past eleven years. O’Leary’s dance practice is grounded in the duality of power and softness. It breathes freedom and honesty of exploration and human experience, becoming a product of both the digital and physical realms. As an independent artist, O’Leary is interested in creating her own soundscapes and projections as part of an integrated practice. O’Leary has created multiple dance works and films including Yinarr the film that was presented at Yirramboi festival 2020 and Dance (Lens) Festival 2021. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2021, O’Leary performed her first full-length work ‘Yinarr’ in Adelaide Fringe and Dancehouse in 2022. She was also a part of ‘Collision’ by Jo Lloyd presented at Junction Arts Festival and ‘Garabari’ by Joel Bray at Arts House in 2022. In 2023 O’Leary will be sharing her second full length work ‘A Certain Mumble’ in Frame Festival at the Northcote Town Hall.
