Like teammate Shane Edwards, the veteran defender spent much of the 2020 season back in Melbourne to be with wife Rouba for the birth of son Mohamed.

Missed seven games before returning in round 13 and, although he wasn’t as prolific as usual, provided invaluable leadership and calmness.

The dashing half-back popped his calf in the early stages of the Grand Final but dug deep to play through the pain after Nick Vlastuin went down with a heavy concussion.
