Richmond star Kane Lambert has provided an insight into the impressive development this season of talented, young Tiger Shai Bolton, following his transition from small forward to midfielder.

Bolton has been a revelation for the Tigers through the midfield with his explosive, breakaway speed and silky skills.

He has significantly helped fill the ‘engine-room’ void created by the long-term absence during the season of Dion Prestia, Shane Edwards and skipper Trent Cotchin.

The 21-year-old is averaging 15.2 disposals, 4.8 inside-50s, 3.5 clearances, 5.5 score involvements and 361.7 metres gained per match in season 2020.

“You’re starting to see that he’s got some confidence in his own ability,” Lambert said on SEN.

“He’s obviously played in a premiership last year, but he’s been surrounded by really experienced players . . .

“This year he’s stepped up and he’s starting to get a little bit of attention from the opposition as well. So that’s going to be another growth area for him.

“I love the way he’s gone about his footy.

“He’s eager to learn. He’s spent a lot of time with players understanding what’s required of him as an AFL player . . . He’s gone to another level.”
