Sarah Hosking has become Richmond’s first recruit of the 2020 AFLW Sign and Trade Period, after a deal with Carlton was confirmed today.
The Tigers used their end of first-round compensation draft pick (No. 15 overall, No. 9 Victorian), which had to be traded for ready-made talent, to secure the 24-year-old.
The experienced midfielder arrives at Tigerland with all 30 of Carlton’s AFLW games to her name, having not missed a match since debuting in the very first AFLW game in 2017.
Hosking, the identical twin of Carlton player Jess, was also a member of the Blues’ leadership group in 2020.
Known for her contested ability and willingness to put her head over the ball, she averaged 12 disposals, three marks and three tackles across the 2020 season.
Richmond Head of Women’s Football, Kate Sheahan, said Hosking would bring a wealth of experience to the Tigers’ young list.
“We’re very excited to have secured a player of Sarah’s calibre and are looking forward to what she’ll be able to bring to the Club,” Sheahan said.
“She’s a proven leader and is also coming from a Club that has had recent on-field success and finals experience.
“We believe she’ll be a significant addition to our midfield with her athleticism and professionalism, and think she’ll be a great support to our young midfielders.”
