Bollywood superstar Vidya Balan will be Richmond’s special guest at its Round 7 clash with the Sydney Swans at the MCG.

And Richmond is inviting all members of Melbourne's Indian community to show their support for Balan, by attending the match on Saturday 12 May.

Balan, who arrives in Australia this week for the launch of the 2012 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, will be a guest in the Tigers’ President’s Function, and will deliver the match ball to the umpires before the game at about 4.30pm.

Richmond has forged close connections to Melbourne’s Indian community in recent times, launching the Indian Tigers Supporter Group this year, with Indian cricket great Rahul Dravid as its patron.

Richmond also hosted the Indian team that competed in last year’s International Cup, and has actively participated in the Divali Festival.

The Tigers have also canvassed plans to play a pre-season match in India as part of a broader opportunity to develop commercial partnerships.

Balan, who was recently presented with a National Award for Best Actress, is widely regarded as Indian cinema’s leading actress.

Prior to the match against the Swans, Richmond will host a Bollywood-themed “Before the Pounce” event at the ME Bank Centre, Punt Road Oval, from 2pm-4pm, featuring Indian food stalls, children’s activities and player autographs.

And, at the MCG for the big game, a special area has been reserved for the Tigers’ Indian supporters in a prime-viewing position.  To access this exclusive area, please follow the instructions below:
