Talented Richmond playmaker Shane Edwards has accepted his 2018 All Australian accolade in typical style.
It’s the first time in his 12-year AFL career that the premiership Tiger has gained All Australian selection, but he’s handled the significant achievement with trademark modesty and low-key manner.

“I was just a bit surprised I even got invited to be honest,” Edwards said on 5AA.
“You don’t go to those kind of nights expecting anything to happen, but I guess I was just lucky with who was on the panel . . .
“It’s a bit surreal . . . It’s probably something that I’ll look back after my career’s finished and be pretty happy with it. But at the moment I just feel like I’m still out there working my hardest just to get a kick.
Edwards is averaging an AFL career-high 19.7 disposals this season and is ranked first in the competition for handball metres gained and second for goal assists.
“I think it’s been my most consistent over the course of the year,” he said.
“I’ve managed to play every game so far, so I think that probably means that I’ve probably had a better year.
“But, having said that, I think being in a team that’s winning more than losing probably helps my cause . . .”
