Richmond’s Elite Performance Manager, Matt Hornsby, will leave Richmond at the end of the season after 12 years at the Club.

Hornsby has decided to pursue a new business opportunity outside of football, after more than 16 years in the AFL industry.

“It’s been the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, because of the passion I have for the Richmond Football Club and the enjoyment I’ve had working with such a great group of people,” he said.

“It’s tough because I think this group has a great opportunity ahead of it.

“The decision to move on was based on an exciting opportunity that was offered to me outside of the football industry.  It’s exciting for me and my family.”

Since arriving at Richmond in 2000, Hornsby has been central to bringing the Tigers to the forefront of AFL strength and conditioning and sport science practices.

In Hornsby’s time at Tigerland, the fitness department has grown from two full-time staff to four, and has added a specialist team of consultants, along with a group of 10 sport science interns.

“Matt has done a tremendous job over a long period of time, and he will be a big loss to the football department,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Craig Cameron.

“But we respect his decision to move on, and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.

“While we are disappointed Matt has moved on, we are pleased he has agreed to assist us in finding his replacement.”
