New Richmond recruit Lulu Beatty is not taking her second crack at the elite level for granted.

Instead, she's utilising her opportunity to make her mark at Punt Road, after being signed on as an AFLW replacement player for Charley Ryan (ACL) last month.

Now, as Match Simulation and a Practice Match are just weeks away, the 21-year-old has declared she's ready to be considered for senior football once more.

"To have a second chance at the highest level and go to work on the things I didn't do quite right the first time is important," Beatty told 3WBC Radio on Monday.

"A new environment always changes things...being with new people to push you and new coaches to challenge you to be better."

Beatty, who joined the Tigers after four senior games with Carlton, has been whisked into the intensity and excitement of pre-season at Punt Road, but has leant on some leaders to settle her in.

"I've just come in and it's been a whirlwind and to have games so soon is exciting but also overwhelming," she said.

"I'm coming into a new position on the wing, Maddie Shevlin has been a massive help in teaching me this role, I look up to her as a player playing a similar role.

"It's been such a high level of footy. I'm learning so much from everyone, it's a stacked team.

"It's a very impressive outfit, looking fit and strong and we're looking forward to seeing what we can do when the season starts."

After being delisted by the Blues at the end of last season, Beatty made the move to Darebin in the AFLW off-season, where she began perfecting her craft in hopes of another AFLW call up.

And it was just her luck when she got the call from the Tigers, confirming she'd be elevated from a train-on player, to a senior replacement.

"When I got delisted from Carlton, I looked at what my priorities were as a player," Beatty said.

"At the end of the day, I wanted footy to be an environment where I am having fun and enjoying myself. The goal was to always end up on a list (AFLW), but I didn't want that to be the only reason I was playing, because that takes out a lot of the enjoyment.

"That's why I went to Darebin, I knew that would be a place I'd find that enjoyment and I knew I'd be playing my best footy if I was playing somewhere I loved and cared about the team success and Club success.

"That decision helped me a lot with getting to where I am now with Richmond, I've found myself at a Club where I'm really enjoying my footy beyond Darebin."

Now, her focus is solely on helping a surging Tigers side to reach AFLW finals once more in 2025. Her new role at Richmond comes with a lot of expectation, but the young defender-turned-winger wouldn't have it any other way.

"I'm taking some maturity into this season and really looking at how I can develop myself as a player," Beatty said.

"If I'm working hard and putting into myself as a player, things will fall into place."
