Katie Brennan and Tessa Lavey spoke positively of their experiences in Darwin during the AFLW’s Indigenous Round.
Richmond AFLW skipper Katie Brennan labelled the thrilling Dreamtime draw as “a great spectacle for the crowd, and for the people at home.”
“We’ve loved playing here,” Brennan said post-match at TIO Stadium.
“It's been so fantastic to be here in Darwin, and what a special evening it was here for Dreamtime.”
“It’s an incredible feeling (to be part of the inaugural Dreamtime in Darwin clash).
“There’s so many moments we've taken, whether it was at TIO Stadium or out in the communities or at schools.
“Our people are richer for the experience of coming up here, and we hope we’ve given back to the community as well…we’re so grateful for it.”
Speaking to Richmond Media post-game on Saturday night, vice-captain Tessa Lavey echoed Brennan’s thoughts.
“Dreamtime has been amazing in Darwin, and we have absolutely loved it,” she said.
“It really is an incredible honour to play in Darwin, I grew up watching the men’s game on the television…(and) for us to be up here doing it in the women’s group is really special for me, and for our whole group.”
“We’ve really enjoyed it. To be able to get out to schools, communities and inspire a few kids along the way was really special to our group and we really relished that opportunity.”
The 31-year-old was proud of her side's efforts on Saturday night.
“The group was really proud of their effort in the fourth (quarter) to really lift,” Lavey said.
“We backed ourselves in that we’ve done a really big pre-season, and then worked really hard during the season as well.
“Coming out of three-quarter-time, we knew we needed to lift and we did, and really proud of the group for that.”
Like Lavey, Brennan praised her side’s performance in Darwin on Saturday night.
“Draws are bittersweet in the end, but I feel like our girls fought it out hard," the skipper said.
“I'm really proud of our girls for fighting it out."
