Hugo Ralphsmith produced the breakout performance of his AFL career with Richmond in last night’s Anzac Day Eve blockbuster against Melbourne at the MCG.
The 22-year-old, in his 34th game (second this season) at senior level for the Tigers, had an AFL career-high 21 disposals, a career-high and equal team-high 11 contested possessions, six marks, three tackles, career-high four clearances, four score involvements, four intercepts and 241 metres gained.
Matched up on quality Demon wingman Ed Langdon, he won key contests, provided the team with plenty of run, and was efficient with his ball use.
Richmond coach Adem Yze commended Ralphsmith during his post-match media conference.
“Ralphy’s played half-back at VFL level, and he’s been thrown around a little bit. We gave him an opportunity to play on a wing against a quality winger (Ed Langdon) and he not only held his own he looked like an A-grade winger today for us,” Yze said.
