Collingwood has stunned Richmond by 39 points at the MCG on Friday night to book its spot in the 2018 Grand Final.

The Magpies' blistering start and relentless pressure was the catalyst for the 15.7 (97) to 8.10 (58) result, which will see them play in their first flag decider since 2011.

Richmond kicked the first two goals of the fourth quarter to make it somewhat of a nervous finish, but Adam Treloar's booming goal midway through the term killed off any momentum and ended the Tigers' streak of 22 straight wins at the home of football.

The Magpies led by as much as 53 points towards the end of the second term to leave the Tigers faithful silenced.

An electric first quarter saw the Magpies fly out of the blocks, kicking five goals to one in a dominant start to proceedings.

But the game was really turned on its head in the second quarter thanks to one man - Mason Cox.

The American forward owned the air and kicked the first three goals to help the Pies put one foot in the Grand Final.

Richmond finally kicked its second goal on the cusp of half-time through Jack Higgins, but Collingwood's 44-point lead proved too much to chase down.

Jordan De Goey was one of the Pies' best with four goals, while Steele Sidebottom also impressed with 41 disposals.

Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt kicked five of his own for the Tigers but it was a night where the premiers had too few contributors.
