Richmond has secured the signature of defender Alex Rance, with the 25-year-old committing to the Club until at least the end of the 2019 season.

Rance was to become a free agent at the end of this season, but the All-Australian has finalised a four-year contract extension to remain at Tigerland.

The re-signing comes in the same season captain Trent Cotchin and emerging midfielder Dustin Martin recommitted to Richmond.

Rance has developed into one of the best defenders in the competition, and he capped off his rise to prominence by being named at centre half back in the 2014 All Australian team.

He has continued his sparkling form in the first half of the 2015 season, averaging 16 disposals and five marks, and impacting games with his ability to read the play and initiate the Tigers’ offensive play.

He is currently ranked No. 1 for one percenters at the Club, No. 2 for contested marks, No. 3 for marks, and No. 5 for tackles.

“Alex is obviously an integral part of our team, and we’re thrilled to have him re-commit to the Club for a further four years,” said Richmond General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson.

“He not only provides us with his on-field talents, but the care he has for the club and his teammates is just as important.”

“At 25 years of age, we look forward to his continued improvement as he moves into the prime of his career.”

Rance has played 118 games in his career to date, after being drafted with selection 18 in the 2007 AFL Draft.
