Emerging Richmond defender Jake Batchelor has provided an insight into the workings of the team’s backline in the wake of the Tigers restricting Port Adelaide to just 5.13 (43) for the entire Round 8 match at Adelaide Oval last Sunday.
A particularly impressive aspect of that performance by the Tiger backs was their standing firm in the face of a Power third-quarter, inside-50 onslaught and restricting them to just 1.4 for the term.

“We’ve got a pretty good group down there,” Batchelor said on ‘Sportsday’.
“We’re a pretty close-knit group and it’s all about team defence now. If one cog in the chain’s not working, then it’s going to fall through.
“So you put a lot of emphasis on your other teammates helping you out as well.
“But we’ve got some pretty good players down the backline, obviously led by (Troy) Chaplin and (Alex) Rance, and Bachar Houli as well.
“We’ve got a lot of players that can play multiple roles down there as well which I think adds a bit of flexibility to the team.”
