Despite continuing to work around the clock, in an attempt to improve its list in the final stages of the trade period, Richmond remains focused on investing heavily in November’s National Draft.
The Tigers contemplated swapping their first round pick in exchange for Melbourne midfielder Jack Trengove, but talks ceased after the 23-year-old suffered a setback with a foot injury.
“The recruiting team is certainly still working really hard,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson, on the second episode of the Bingle Recruitment Zone panel show.
“Sometimes, in trade week, I guess you don’t get the results that you work hard to achieve. I guess the Jack Trengove situation is a good example of that.
“It would’ve been great to bring in Jack, who fitted our strategy of bringing in a midfielder and increasing our depth there, while still retaining our draft picks.
“Given that’s fallen over, we’re happy, as we’ve said all along, to retain our draft picks and invest heavily in this year’s Draft.”
While trying to improve its list in the player movement period, Richmond has been able to retain all of its players, after the initial round of list changes were announced in September.
This week, the Club announced six re-signings – Jake Batchelor, Matt Dea, Todd Elton, Matt McDonough, Ricky Petterd and Matt Thomas.
“It’s pleasing, because there’s obviously a few clubs having those issues with players,” Richardson said.
“All our players seem to be happy, and seem to want to be here and, hopefully, want to be part of the success that we’re building towards.
“That’s a great sign of confidence in what we’re doing as a club.”
