Former Richmond captain Chris Newman will return to the Tigers’ line-up, in Saturday’s clash with Fremantle at the MCG, after being sidelined for four matches with a calf strain.

The 32-year-old veteran of 240 league games sustained the injury in Richmond’s narrow loss to Geelong in Round 7.

Newman is one of four changes the Tigers have made to the team that was defeated by North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium last Sunday, with young defender, Dylan Grimes, ruckman, Shaun Hampson, and experienced forward also being recalled.

Grimes missed the game against North due to a toe injury, while Hampson, who was omitted, has been brought back as Richmond seeks to bolster its ruck stocks for the challenge of taking on Fremantle’s formidable big man Aaron Sandilands.

Out of the Tigers’ side are suspended pair Matt Thomas and Ty Vickery, along with Ben Griffiths and Matt McDonough, who have both been omitted.

Richmond’s three emergencies for Saturday’s game are McDonough, Brad Helbig and Brett O’Hanlon.
