Richmond VFL coach Tim Clarke provides an exclusive summary of how the AFL-listed players performed at VFL level in Friday’s draw with Frankston.
Jake Batchelor
14 Disposals, 5 Marks
Didn’t play as well as the previous week, and needs to get more involved offensively. Still played well on his direct opponent, but we expect more from him at VFL level.
Todd Banfield
1 Goal, 15 Disposals
Best game he’s played for the year. He had 15 touches, kicked a goal, had two or three shots and finally brought the energy that we’ve been waiting for him to provide.
Ben Darrou
21 Disposals, 7 Marks
Outstanding again. Had one goal kicked on him but his defensive positioning was terrific and offensively he contributed really well to the side.
Aaron Edwards
2 Goals, 26 Disposals, 7 Marks
He played a role through the midfield, which was a bit different to where he’s been playing before he got injured. He’ll be a really good player for us this year and always gives everything he’s got.
Todd Elton
1 Goals, 19 Disposals
Keeps improving. He performed well as a forward and competed well when required. He went into the ruck at different times and then went down back in the last quarter and played his role well.
Ben Lennon
18 Disposals, 7 Marks
Ben was really good off half-back. He was rested at three-quarter time by the coaches in case he was needed in the seniors on Sunday. He had plenty of intercept marks and some really attacking play, but we still need him to work on his disposal.
Liam McBean
3 Goals, 8 Disposals, 4 Marks
His first half was exceptional. He still needs to keep working on the basic things that we’re trying to improve with him as a player, so that if he goes up to AFL, he can really fight and compete.
Kamdyn McIntosh
17 Disposals, 6 Marks
Played on the wing most of the day and contributed a lot in the first half, but then went out of the game in the second half. We expect some more involvement from him.
Anthony Miles
30 Disposals, 13 Clearances, 6 Marks
Miles was outstanding again and has been our most consistent player so far this season. Had 30 touches, 13 clearances, five inside 50s and a shot on goal. His hardness at the ball and his approach to his footy is second to none.
Brett O’Hanlon
16 Disposals, 5 Tackles
Another good game, but slightly down on his numbers from previous weeks. He used the ball much better, which is pleasing, but we need him getting another five or 10 touches and hitting the scoreboard.
Orren Stephenson
1 Goals, 25 hitouts, 18 Disposals, 10 Marks
Orren was fantastic for three quarters. He was the most dominant big guy on the ground, but we just needed a bigger effort from him in the last term. He had three or four shots on goal and 10 marks.
Ty Vickery
3 Goals, 17 hitouts, 17 Disposals, 7 Marks, 3 Tackles
Ty was terrific, and played a lot of time in the ruck. He was much better with the defensive side of his game. It was really pleasing to see a guy challenged and come back to VFL with an outstanding attitude, and he kicked three important goals in the second half.
