New Richmond recruit Anthony Miles shapes as a valuable addition to the Tigers’ emerging midfield group.

Miles, who was Richmond’s second selection in this week’s AFL Rookie Draft, after being delisted by his original league club GWS at the end of the 2013 season, prides himself on his inside game and versatility as a midfielder.

In seven appearances for GWS in his 2012 debut season, Miles averaged 18.3 disposals per match, with a career-high 27 touches coming against Fremantle.

“I played a variety of roles in 2012.  I had a bit of a tagging role, as well, in that handful of games I played,” Miles said on ‘RSN’.

“Something that I pride myself on is my stoppage work.  Now, an area of focus for me, is to be able to get out and spread from the stoppage.  But I’ve probably addressed a little bit of that . . .”

The 179cm, 78kg, 21-year-old, who played 10 games in two seasons with GWS all-up, admitted to being a “little bit frustrated” with his lack of opportunities at the fledgling AFL club, although he understood why that was the case.

“The Giants have got a lot of midfielders at the moment, so certainly no hard feelings for how it ended there.  But now, I’m just looking forward to getting to Richmond,” Miles said.

“It’s a pretty exciting phase for them.  Playing finals last season obviously was a big thrill for them.

“I’m just excited to get down there and start cracking into the pre-season.”
