Richmond’s increasing midfield depth was on display in Coburg’s VFL loss to Collingwood on Sunday.

Sam Lonergan, Matt Arnot, Robin Nahas and Brad Helbig were all solid contributors, despite the Tigers’ 28-point defeat at Victoria Park.

After two appearances at AFL level, Lonergan was in fine form collecting 27 disposals (19 contested), 13 clearances and six tackles.

Arnot also earned 27 touches and had nine clearances, while Nahas (20 possessions and two goals) and Helbig (17 disposals and six tackles) did their best to keep their names in the frame for AFL selection.

Luke McGuane was Coburg’s leading goalkicker with three, while Orren Stephenson and Tom Derickx combined to give the Tigers the edge in the ruck.

Collingwood controlled the match for the most of the afternoon, winning the first three quarters before consolidating in the last.

The result left Coburg 12th on the ladder ahead of a trip to play second-placed Casey on Sunday, June 23.
