Despite the loss to the reigning premiers and current ladder leader North Melbourne, Richmond coach Ryan Ferguson remains confident his side can take valuable lessons from the match.
With only three more games remaining of the home-and-away fixture, Ferguson insists his side will continue to find ways to improve and grow as a team.
“We are heavily invested in the now and the season as it stands,” Ferguson said post-match.
“Let’s use a brilliant experience out there and (question) what worked? What stood up well? Where were we able to put pressure on them? And what do we learn to put into Collingwood this week?
“We will keep growing our game, keep getting better, keep getting stronger, keep growing the momentum. I’m excited to continue on that part of our journey.”
The side’s soul win this season came against Adelaide in Round 8 - a match Ferguson said was a moral booster for his team's hard work.
“It was a reward for effort because we had been playing better football the three weeks prior to that, but we just couldn't get over the line,” Ferguson said.
“I mentioned pre-game that the environment hasn’t changed from last week to this week, the environment at the Club has been strong, it’s been positive.
“We have kept that strong all the way through, which I think is a good foundation to set.”
Richmond’s leaders, Monique Conti and Ellie McKenzie, were once again a dominant force throughout the midfield, recording more than 20 disposals each, and both had seven tackles with four centre clearances.
Key defender Beth Lynch is confident her side will be better for the hit out, taking lessons learnt and putting them into practice this Sunday when Richmond squares off with Collingwood at Victoria Park.
“I think we can learn a lot from the game. They are obviously a really good side,” Lynch told Richmond Media.
“We can definitely take some lessons, but mostly we just kept attacking the game. We didn’t go quiet or go into our shells very much, so we will definitely take that as a positive.
“We held up well against a team that hasn’t lost in 20 games, so going into (the match with) Collingwood, we will take a bit of belief and really see what we can do and bring the momentum from the last two weeks.
“We are just looking forward to playing footy again and taking the lessons, building momentum, and let’s go get them.”
