Richmond’s emphatic win over Adelaide on Sunday marks the side’s first of the season - a result that coach Ryan Ferguson is proud of.
Clawing their way back from an 11-point deficit at halftime to record an 11-point win, Ferguson applauded the way his side was able to compete for a full four-quarter effort.
“I’m pleased for the players more than anything,” Ferguson said in his post-match press conference.
“Sometimes it’s hard to convince the whole group that we didn’t get it quite right, and we are building.
“But we were able to go with them for longer today and impart our game on them for the full four quarters, rather than dropping away for a quarter.”
Richmond’s midfielders stood tall, with none other than Monique Conti dictating the passage of play, finishing with 34 disposals, 13 contested possessions, 10 tackles and one goal.
Ferguson praised the 25-year-old for her ability to influence the game from all areas of the ground.
“She was inspirational in all three facets of the game. Her contest, her attack and her defence,” Ferguson said.
“She just seemed to get on every loose ball that was important. She was there, lifting her teammates up and making them walk taller.
“She has been doing some heavy lifting this season, and more and more we have been getting a better balance around that.
“I thought the midfield dynamic was really strong, and the team dynamic was starting to work for each other.”
With a big test against first-placed North Melbourne awaiting Richmond this Saturday, Ferguson remains adamant that his side is purely focused on taking it a week at a time.
“The biggest thing this season is about being in the moment,” he said.
“Train in the moment. If you are in a meeting, you are in that moment. Let’s be in the moment longer and not go to stories or where we could be or should be.
“We will just keep building our game from moment to moment.”
Richmond now turns its focus to Saturday night's Pride Round blockbuster against North Melbourne at IKON Park from 7.15pm (AEDT).
