Following the success of the Islamic College of Sport in its inaugural year at the Coburg City Oval, two new campus locations will open in Melbourne’s West and Southeast in 2025.
The Islamic College of Sport (ICS) is an independent senior secondary school, offering young Muslim students an opportunity to pursue their passion for sport in a culturally welcoming environment.
Pending VRQA registration, the new campus locations of the ICS will cater to a wider range of young Muslims across Melbourne, allowing them to complete a holistic and applied education connected to the sports industry and community experiences.
“We are so excited about expanding to the West and Southeast, (which are) two largely Muslim-populated areas. We’re going to be able to offer our programs and pathways to more of our Islamic youth,” ICS principal Hassan Ellahibi said, adding that the strategy for the ICS to expand to two new locations was as 'clear as day'.
“I’m proud of the impact we are having on these young people at the College…and we have had many parents and students pick up the phone to enquire about enrolling at the College for 2025 and beyond," he said.
“Many of those parents and students come from the West and the Southeast of Melbourne.”
Established in 2023, the College combines faith with sport through an integrated curriculum – a first in the world.
The College’s inaugural class of Year 11 students is thriving in studying its VCE—Vocational Major program and engaging in its High-Performance program, which caters to student-athletes from all sports.
Bachar Houli Foundation director Ali Fahour, said the ICS vision was to be entrenched in the Islamic community, starting with engaging youth.
“We want to have a reputation in the wider community that any young Muslim student can walk through our doors and access the tools to empower their futures, whether it be in careers or athletically," he said.
“We believe that expanding out to the West and Southeast will allow us to engage with many more young people and provide them with the opportunities at the Islamic College of Sport that they could not get elsewhere.”
Student-leader Omar Ouaida had a very positive experience at the ICS in Term 1 and believes there should be “more like this” in the Islamic community.
“It teaches you real-life skills that are going to be useful for you even after school," Omar said.
“It’s an opportunity you can’t miss out on…and I’d highly recommend the College for those who are passionate about sport within the Islamic community.”
Along with hosting an Information Session at the Coburg City Oval on May 20, the ICS will host Sessions for prospective students and parents in the West and Southeast in June.
