The Tigers will regain the services of important half-back Short to face the Dockers, after he strained his calf against West Coast in Round 5.

Speaking to the media on Friday morning, Richmond senior coach Adem Yze said the Short was a "spirit lifter" for the side.

"He's had a great week on the track," Yze said.

"To have a leader, he's vice-captain and a terrific half-back, back in our side... We really missed him last week, we love his drive off half-back.

"So, to get some good news around the injury front, is good for not only us as a Club, but our team.

"Our players love playing with him, so we can't wait to get going."

Young cub Sonsie, who was omitted for Anzac Day Eve, earned his recall following a best on ground performance in the VFL Tigers' curtain raiser win over Casey.

He amassed 32 disposals, including 19 contested possessions, 10 clearances, seven inside-50s, five marks and one goal, garnering big praise from Richmond VFL coach Steve Morris.

"An outstanding game from Tyler," Morris said.

"I was particularly pleased with his attitude and the damage that he had from his possessions.

"He had a huge impact on the game with 19 contested possessions, and I thought that he got the ball in dangerous spaces consistently throughout the game."

Out of the side is Jacob Hopper, who suffered a hamstring injury in Round 7, and fellow midfielder Jack Graham, who won't play due to a minor hamstring complaint.

Richmond's three emergencies are Kane McAuliffe, Steely Green and Samson Ryan.

The Club will name its substitute 60 minutes prior to the first bounce on Sunday.

Yze said the midfield battle between the two sides would be crucial to the end result.

"We'll have some levers that we'll pull to hopefully slow their ball movement down, but they're really strong in the contest, I think they're number one for stoppage," he said.

"So, the territory battle is going be really important at contest, at stoppage, and the midfield battle is going to be where the game is won or lost.

"We've put a lot of work into that this week again, and similar to last week, we came up against a strong midfield group and we expect the same this week."

The clash at the MCG kicks off at 1.00pm and will be broadcast live on FOX FOOTY and Kayo Sports.
